1. Describe Color and its effects on emotions. Use
the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting.
Color can be described in
many ways but one of the most accurate definitions I found is that color is a
visual attribute of things and this is a result of the light that is emitted. I
also found that color has a large affect on our emotions; it has been studied
that certain colors give an emotional response. For instance I read in the text
book that many restaurants like to use decorations in red because they believe
it increases appetite and food consumption. It is also believe that the color blue
can lower a person’s blood pressure, pulse and respiration rate.
2. What is a theoretical aspect of color that most
intrigues/fascinates you? Why?
A theoretical aspect of color
that I find most intriguing is its connection to emotion. This aspect of color
fascinates me because it’s so interesting in how a simple color can determine
the way a person is feeling. For instance anytime I wear a nice bright color I feel
so happy and upbeat. On the other hand, when I wear black or grey you can see
the difference in my mood.
3. In the Color video, what made the biggest impact
on you in regards to color and its effects on emotions?
In the “Color” video, one of
the works that made one of the biggest impacts on me was the art pieces created
by Mark Rothko. The colors he used in many of his paintings were used to bring
a certain emotion to people. However, his paintings were displayed in restaurants
and the artist became upset. His paintings were initially meant to bring out
the feeling of being trapped.
4. In the Feelings video, what made the biggest
impact on you in regards to color and its effects on emotions?
In the “feelings” video,
something that made a big impact on me in regards to colors effect on emotion
was the way one of the painters reflected on it. One of the painters name Goya
did this by using very dark colors, she felt darker colors show emotions of
fear and anger. I found this interesting because I discussed this earlier in
how when I wear darker colors my mood isn’t as upbeat as usual.
