1. Upload the three (3) inspiration images to your Blog (or link to your Photobucket account). Explain why you selected the inspiration pieces. The pieces I chose were called “Behold, the Ancestor, the second piece was called “Royal sister and wife”, and lastly “The Founder King”. I chose these masks because they each inspirited me somehow and they were all very unique pieces that I enjoyed learning about.
2. Include the analysis and description (art criticism steps) of the three (3) inspiration pieces. In the first mask I chose called “Behold, the Ancestor” really caught my attention it wasn’t like the typical mask this was a piece of art. It has huge circle that looks like a head full of hair, a huge nose that signifies suns fertilization of the earth, and finally the bulging eyes that represent the new moon and full moon. The second mask was called “Royal Sister and Wife” this mask also caught my eye because of its great detail and its relation to woman in general. The line represented in this mask gave me inspiration to create lines too. Lines in this mask illustrated tears and the pain of death which was really powerful to learn about. The last mask that I found interesting was “The Founder King” this was another piece that caught my eye because of its texture. The face was covered in leopard which gave it a unique design. It also had tons of shells and beads that created different patterns.
3. Explain how you used the Elements and Principles in your finished mask. Some elements that were incorporated into my piece were rhythm, texture, and line. If you look closely at my mask when painting it I was swirling around the colors of blue and green which created a unique texture. My mask also shows rhythm because of the overall flow of the mask all around you can see the same amount of designs on each side. Lastly, line is also illustrated in my piece from me drawing lines around the mask.
4. Share your opinion of your finished mask and what you thought about creating the mask. My opinion on my finished piece was that it came out pretty good based on my limited supplies. I really enjoyed making this mask it made me feel like a little kid again. Not only was it fun coming up with different strategies but it was good to be hands on and creative again.
