Week 12: Blog Posting
1. Explain why you selected each of the FOUR videos you choose from the selection listed above. The four videos I selected were “Abstract Expressionism and Pop: Art of the 50’s and 60’s”, “Isamu Noguchi: The Sculpture of Spaces”, “Andy Warhol: Images of an Image”, and lastly “Hockney on Photography”. I chose these four videos because I felt like their titles seemed interesting.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. In the first video “Abstract Expressionism and Pop: Art of the 50”s and 60’s I got to learn how Abstract Expressionism came about and how it later on got rejected. In the second video “Isamu Noguchi: The Sculpture of Spaces” I got to learn about the sculptors life and how it became interested in sculpture gardens. In the third video, “Andy Warhol: Images of and Image” I got to learn more about Andy Warhol. He was a commercial artist and then began experimenting with images. He was also known for working with silk screening. Lastly “Hockney on Photography” I got to learn more about David Hockney and basically discusses the void between the person behind the camera and his subjects.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text? The videos related to the readings in the text because it gave an overview of the artists and topics that were discussed before. The videos helped elaborate more on these topics and a visual presentation.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts? My opinion on these films was that they were pretty interesting. The films were put together and held a lot of information. I liked how the readings from the textbook can connect with the videos. It was very helpful being able to see what was discussed in the book visually.
