Week 10:Video Blog posting

1. Explain why you selected each of the FOUR videos you choose from the selection listed above.
The four videos that I chose from the selection were “Buddhism”, “Chinese Art: Treasures of the National Palace Museum”, “The Great Wave: Japanese Art”, and lastly “African Art”. I chose these videos because they seemed interesting.

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the first video “Buddhism”, I got to learn about the spread of the religion and how It came about. This video mainly focused on the places where Buddhism became a huge sensation such as Mahabodhi Temple.  In the second video “Chinese Art: Treasures of the National Palace Museum” the video focuses on thirty-three different pieces of art work and how it has influenced the Chinese culture. Most of the pieces are very hard to find unless seen in the museums where they are held. In the third video “The great Wave: Japanese Art” it shows the story of the great wave. It mainly focuses on how it came about and the multiple meanings it has. Lastly the four video “African Art” the main concept of this film was the culture of the African tribes. This video focuses on the artistic expressions and how important it is to their people.

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
I feel like the videos related to the readings from the text in many ways. As always the textbook is always very detailed about the different things we are learning. The videos however, give us a more realistic view of it and can be very informative.

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
My opinions of the films are that they were all good and very well put together. I really enjoyed watching the films because I felt it also went over things that weren’t expanded on or even heard of in the textbook.
